High-Low Hemlines.

There was a time when things were simple and the hem on a dress was all one length. But modern times call for modern designs, so the powers that be came up with a new way to fashion their below-the-waist wear: the high-low hemline. Here some of our favourite A-listers show off the various ways to play with what was once a boring, straight line.
Diane Kruger keeps her length difference little with a triangle slit at the front of this Mary Katrantzou cocktail dress. The slice gives the illusion of a true high-low hem without the dramatic mini skirt front. The only problem is, it sort of looks like a chunk of her dress is missing. Emma Roberts’ Michael Kors ballgown looks like giant, black wings attached to a simple, LBD! It gives the We're The Millers star's dramatic take on the double length an almost vintage feel—like Marie Antoinette gone goth. Olivia Palermo offers up the most traditional high-low look of all—the flirty ruffly dress. This floral-patterned frock has the true "mullet-made-out-of-material" effect—mini skirt in the front, maxi dress in the back. We love the peek-a-boo of that bold, yellow fabric inside the skirt—perfect use of the cut's added advantage.

Whether it's a mini slice, dramatic shape or simple length difference, it appears this look is here to stay on the red carpet's most fashionable stars—at least until someone comes up with a totally different way to fashion a simple skirt.
