WITH awards such Best Fight and Best Kiss up for grabs, the MTV Movie Awards may not be the most highbrow of film award shows but it's this irreverence that allows for an edgier dress-code than the formality of the Oscars or Golden Globes. Case in point Rita Ora in a plunging-to-the-navel Barbara Casasola gown or Jessica Alba in her Piece d'Anarchive cropped top and Kenzo full skirt. Lupita Nyong'o added a more fashion forward touch to proceedings in a Chanel autumn/winter 2014 dress, while Shailene Woodley continued to build her status as one of young Hollywood's most interesting style mavens with her Balmain pre-autumn/winter 2014 dress. Here are the trends that made it on the red carpet.

Pleats. Pleats made their debut on the red carpet with Lupita Nyong’o in Chanel, Mila Kunis in Thakoon and Holland Roden in Salvatore Ferragamo.

Crop Top Combos. Jessica Alba, Desi Lydic and Shailene Woodley took to the popular crop top for the MTV Movie Awards.

Floral Explosion. Flowers not only bloomed on the red carpet courtesy of Zendaya, Molly Tarlov and Snooki but also on Drake Bell's tie.

Basic Black. Rita Ora, Debby Ryan and Jenna Dewan Tatum opted for classic black and made it the colour of the night at the awards.

Strapless.  Chrissy Teigen, Jessica Alba and Jillian Rose Reed all let straps slide in their strapless baby doll dresses and full skirted crop top combo.
