Colour Trend: Orange.

Pantone may have named Radiant Orchid—a dusty magenta—its color of the year for 2014, but judging from the latest Fall, Pre- Fall lineups and the red carpet, designers and celebrities beg to differ. The hue that’s cropped up time and time again is orange, from true, juicy shades to red-tinged bricks and rusts. Pastel outerwear was all the rage in 2013, but now Narciso Rodriguez, Joseph Altuzarra, and Gucci’s Frida Giannini have pumped things up with tailored coats in spicy shades. Proenza Schouler added fire to the tonal trend with wrap dresses and separates done in paprika-colored buttery suede. Bottega Veneta’s Tomas Maier did his part, too, showing a cozy Creamsicle sweater and complementary tangerine trousers.

Crop Tops + Midi Skirts.

Miranda Kerr, Chrissy Teigen have all rocked the crop trend with a twist: pairing it with midi skirts.
Miranda Kerr wore a short sleeve crop top and lace midi skirt by Jenni Kayne to the ShopStyle event and added a bright red lip to the otherwise neutral palette. Fellow model Chrissy Teigen provided a chic contrast to the red carpet in her ivory ensemble by ADEAM at the Grammys salute to the Beatles event. Vanessa Hudgens wore Carolina Herrerra crop top with a round midi skirt to the Sirius XM studios and Bella Thorne attended the Lacoste Fall 2014 New York Fashion Show in a matching two tone crop top and midi skirt paired with brown strappy heels.

Metallic Madness.

From L-R: Just Cavalli, Versace, Gucci, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Givenchy

summer/spring 2014 penchant for decadent metallics proceeded to make its way onto various red carpets after being one of the biggest trends on the Grammys red carpet. Cate Blanchett stunned at the AACTA Awards in a Givenchy spring 2014 gown, Halle Berry hit up the Acapulco Film Festival in an All Saints LBD with metallic mesh pannels and coordinating silver heels. Rihanna was all business in her Lanvin spring 2014 ensemble with gold metallic pumps for her MAC cosmetics collaboration  promotion while Gwyneth Paltrow shimmered in salmon pink Prada at the Golden Camera Awards in Berlin. .
While every possible colour enjoyed a metallic makeover this season, it was sharp, sour tones that proved the most desirable. Poisonous greens, vicious pinks, petrol blues and claret reds take shimmer into darker territory, lending a dangerous glamour to the summer/spring rainbow.

The 2014 GRAMMY Music Awards.

The couple were the first in a long list of performers including Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and Pharrell Williams. Unlike more buttoned up events like the Golden Globes, the Grammys anything goes dress code often inspires Hollywood’s best dressed to ditch the fancy gowns and opt for all things short and sparkly, and this year was no exception. Here’s a look at the most outstanding trends of the evening.
