Favourite New York Fashion Week SS13 collections.

As with every Fashion week there is always those collections you liked better than the rest. Here is a look at some of ours and why.

Jason Wu. Jason Wu’s ss13 collection was a dark, black and white dream come true. With only mostly dark hues from midnight blue, black and of course white,  he pulled off a collection worthy of looks we utterly loved- the black on black ensembles, the 50 shades of grey harness inspired looks to the black and white combo, there is no other way to do black and white other than the Jason Wu way. It was sexy, strong femininity at its best.

Marchesa. The Marchesa girls took our breaths away with their Indian Sari inspired romantic collection. The colours, cut and silhouettes of the collection were amazing. The beading and embroidery done on the most gorgeous, sheer and frothy gowns were superb finishing touches to an already exquisite collection.
Marchesa ss13
Marc by Marc Jacobs. This season’s collection was definitely better than lasts. We loved the sporty chic look and the retro laid back feel of the collection. Effortless style to say the least. The mix of prints and patterns for the layered looks, the bold vertical and horizontal stripes were definitely out of a color lover’s dream and lets not forget the turbans that added a surprise bit of chic.
Marc by Marc Jacobs ss13
Alice + Olivia. Stated to be a colorful collection inspired by the American dream, Alice + Olivia delivered to a Tee. The maxi dresses in gorgeous blues and whites, polka dots with voluminous bottoms made the collection charming.
Alice and Olivia ss13
Tadashi Shoji. Amongst those that are known for their romantic and ethereal gowns, Tadashi Shoji lived up to his reputation and then some. The monochromatic neutral ensembles in sheer and lace with a little frill and embroidery added an unexpected touch of whimsy to the collection.

Ps; SS-Spring/Summer.

New York Fashion Week SS13.

It is that time again where Designers showcase their collection for the coming summer/spring season.  While there was a sense of horizontal and vertical stripes domination of the shows, the Marchesa girls wowed with their Indian inspired collection. Over all collections this time round were not only breathtaking, colourful and flirty but also ethereal. Here are some of the trends forecast for next season as seen on the New York Fashion Week Runways.

Maxi Mania. Beautiful gorgeous maxis in an assortment of colours floated down the runway of Alice+Olivia and Donna Karan in various shades of blue, polka dots and mint.
Alice and Olivia SS13
Stripes. Vertical and horizontal stripes dominated the catwalk from designers like Michael Kors, Narcisso Rodriguez as well as Tommy Hilfiger making Stripes one of the most powerful trend to look out for.
Michael Kors ss13
All in the bead work. Theyskens, BadgleyMishka and Marchesa could not resist the beauty of beautifully crafted bead work in most of their romantic gorgeous gown collections.
Marchesa summer/spring13
Sporty Chic. Sports inspired creations featured in Marc by Marc Jacobs, Lacoste and Rebecca Antanoff prove you don’t need to play sports to rock the sporty look.
Lacoste SS13
Prints and Patterns. Looks like prints and patterns are here to stay for awhile at least. They dominated during the Derek Lam, Philip Lim and Anna Sui runway shows amongst others.
Derek Lam SS13
Black and White. When in doubt, a black and white ensemble never goes wrong as shown by Jason Wu and Rachel Zoe on the runway.
Jason Wu SS13
Cut Outs. A carryover trend from the SS12 collections. Vivienne Tam and Alexander Wang proved that cut outs are one of the sexiest ways to show a bit of skin without looking trashy.
Vivienne Tam SS13
Denim. This fashion classic has had an overhaul in washes and wear on the catwalks of Tibi, Marc Jacobs and DKNY. DKNY gave denim a modern and updated twist as the pieces were more dressed up and chic.
DKNY SS13
Bra Tops. The fashion week runways have been awash with a lot of midriff bearing Bra tops from Charlotte Ronson and Rebecca Minkoff collections. Better get those abs toned and tight for this skin bearing trend.
Charlotte Ronson SS13

Monochrome. There is a return of the monochromatic trend in whites, neutrals and all black collections seen at Tadashi Shoji, Richard Chai and BCBG.
