Paris Haute Couture: Spring 2014.

Dior and Chanel made youth their central focus with freeing and incredibly delicate light collections for Spring 2014 that saw trainers on the couture catwalk. Hussein Chalayn made his debut at the house of Vionnet while Elie Saab, Zuhair Murad and Giambattista Valli stayed true to form with their floral, fairy tale collections that were nothing short of breathtaking. These are some of the trends Paris Haute Couture has in store for Spring 2014.

Embroidery. While Valentino went a different route for embroidery with animal faces and jungle themes, Giambattista Valli, Zuhair Murad and Elie Saab piled lots of flowers and sequins on red carpet worthy gowns.

From L-R: Giambattista Valli, Elie Saab, Armani Price, Zuhair Murad and Valentino

Peplum. Given the abundance of peplum all over the couture collections, this trend is holding strong for spring 2014.

From L-R: Alexis Mabille, Elie Saab, Ralph & Russo, Giambattista Valli and Zuhair Murad

Sheer. From sheer sleeves to skirts, it was a game of peek-a-boo in most couture runways with a lot of sheer collections.

From L-R: Stephane Rolland, Valentino, Jean Paul Gaultier, Ralph & Russo and Elie Saab

Fringing. Strewn with jewels like at Chanel or falling in a froth at Jean Paul Gaultier, fringing added the frilly touch to couture collections.

From L-R: Maison Martin Margiela, Chanel, Alexandre Vauthier, Ulyana Sergeenko and Jean Paul Gaultier

Stripes. Stripes were the focal point for the Oscar Carvallo couture collection but with a sprinkling at  Armani Prive and Vionnet, stripes maintain their stance on the trends for spring 2014.

From L-R: Ulyana Sergeenko, Maison Martin Margiela, Oscar Carvallo, Vionnet and Armani Prive

Pleats. One of the biggest trends for spring 2014, it was a pleat fest for Schiaparelli, Alexis Mabille and Oscar Carvallo.

From L-R: Vionnet, Alexis Mabille, Armani Prive, Schiaparelli and Oscar Carvallo

Lace. The yards of lace that dominated couture catwalks were the basis for the stand out 50s glamor feel for couture spring 2014.

Grecian. Draping came in the form of grecian cut gowns and for Jean Paul Gaultier, Alexandre Vauthier and Ralph & Russo.

Embellishment. Heavily embellished gowns in a rainbow of pastel hues were studies in opulence at Versace, Armani Prive and Chanel.

From L-R: Versace Atelier, Zuhair Murad, Armani Prive, Chanel and Ralph & Russo

Ruffles. Ruffles added a surreal touch to gorgeous gowns and little cocktail dresses at Dior, Zuhair Murad,  and Stephane Rolland.

Milan Fashion Week Spring 2014 Trends.

The city well known for its attitude of grand sophistication and elegance opened with a relaxed side step from Gucci unlike last season’s moody heroines which set the tone for the entire vibe from Milan, Costume National returned to Milan after 23 years and DSquared2 took us to a Hawaiian Holiday through their collection. Here is what Milan has to offer spring 2014.

Slits. Versace, Gucci and Costume National provided the dose of sexy with slashed skirts and dresses.

From L-R: Gianfranco Ferre, Fausto Puglisi, Versace, Gucci and Costume National

Ruffles. On collars, hems, tops and as embellishment on skirts, this girly frill is definitely back.

From L-R: Giorgio Armani, MSGM, Bottega Veneta, Emporio Armani and Marni

Sports Luxe. There was a feeling of athleticism at Prada with the sports socks, Emilio Pucci used wrestler inspired belts and Gucci went for sporty chic instead of high glamour.

From L-R: Gucci, Trussardi, Emilio Pucci, Philip Plein and Prada

Pencil Skirts. Tight and a little fitted to the silhouette, the pencil skirt made its mark on the runways of Milan.

From L-R: Marco De Vincenzo, Missoni, SportMax, Blumarine and Antonio Marras

Wide Sleeves. Dolce and Gabbana are popularly known for their love of the wide sleeve, this time round, Emilio Pucci, Gucci and Bottega Veneta joined their love for spring 2014.

From L-R: Emilio Pucci, Aquilano.Rimondi, Bottega Veneta, Versace and Gucci

Tiers. Skirt length came down in increments at Bottega Veneta and at Fendi, colours cascaded and faded to the palest shades in tiers.

From L-R: Luisa Beccaria, Emporio Armani, Fendi, Bottega Veneta and Dsquared2

One Shoulder. Bold and voluminous on one side, Milan is about the one shoulder come spring 2014.

From L-R: Bottega Veneta, Costume National, Emporio Armani, Missoni and Gianfranco Ferre

Shorts. If its not slits then it is definitely shorts. Leg baring is very much in season.

From L-R: Bottega Veneta, Gianfranco Ferre, Dsquared2, Blumarine and Tod's

Crop Tops. Bra and crop tops paired with maxi skirts, high waist pants and skirts peaked out of hooded coats and dainty shoulders.

From L-R: Fausto Puglisi, Jil Sander, Dsquared, Aquilano. Rimondi and Trussardi

Wide Leg Pants. More on the high-waist than low cut and slouchy in the silhouette that’s been going through out fashion month, wide leg pants are gaining momentum.

From L-R: Marni, Trussardi, Emporio Armani, Gianfranco Ferre and Costume National
